History

The National Order of Mali is conferred upon Malian citizens for meritorious military, civil, or professional service of at least 10 years. It may also be awarded to foreigners, but only under exceptional circumstances. The President of the Republic of Mali is the Grand Master of the Order.

All recipients are admitted to the Order as Knights, and promotion to a higher grade may only be made after 5 years in the lower grade.

The number of Officers in the Order may not exceed 20% of the Knights.

The Officer is identical to the Grand Officer, however only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star. The obverse inscription translates to “National Order,” and the initials stand for “République du Mali" (Republic of Mali). The reverse inscription translates to “One People, One Goal, One Faith.”
