The National Order of the National Heroes Kabila-Lumumba was established in 2002. It is named in honour of the national heroes President Laurent-Désiré Kabila and Prime Minister Patrice-Emery Lumumba who were both assassinated while in office. The sitting President is the Grand Master.

It is conferred by the President of the Republic upon Congolese citizens and foreigners for outstanding service to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It may also be awarded posthumously.

The obverse inscription translates to "Justice, Unity," and the reverse inscription translates to "Democratic Republic of the Congo, Order of National Heroes."
