History

This medal was conferred upon citizens of Kimberley in recognition of the defence of the town of Kimberly during the Boer Siege from 1899 to 1900.

It is an unofficial award issued by Henry Oliver, the Mayor of Kimberley. The official award was a bar to the Queen's South Africa Medal.

This medal is also known as the "Mayor's Siege Medal".
