History

This medal was conferred upon other ranks of the South African Railways Police in recognition of gallantry. It was also awarded for 18 years of impeccable service.

Originally this medal was known as the "Railways and Harbours Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal" (1934-1960). It was discontinued in 1966 as it was part of the first series of South African Railways Police medals used from 1934 to 1966. A second series of medals was used from 1966 until the Force was incorporated into the South African Police in 1986.
