The Order of the Exalted was founded by Sultan Sayyid 'Ali II bin Hamud on June 7, 1905 in celebration of his coming of age and assumption of full ruling powers.
The original name of the Order is "Wisam al-Aliyeh."
The Order of the Exalted was awarded for distinguished and faithful service to the Sultan. It was the third order of precedence in Zanzibar and was conferred in four classes. The first was a special class with brilliance, which was only awarded to the Heads of State. The remaining four classes fall into the regular organization. A silver medal is included in the order as a fifth class.
The order is obsolete since 1911.
