History

The Aviation Cross was awarded to recognize Brazilian and Allied air force officers who flew assigned missions during the Italian Campaign. The Cross was conferred upon units as well. The Cross was also awarded to active air force officers who fought in the South Atlantic against submarines attacking Brazilian ports. Both Crosses are distinguished by their ribbon.

White ribbon with two blue side stripes and blue edges was awarded for mission flown during the Italian Theater of Operations.

Red, Yellow, and red ribbon was awarded for mission in and around Brazil.

Yellow ribbon with two red side stripes and central green stripe was awarded to individuals who served the South Atlantic Theater of Operations.

For every 20 completed missions, individuals awarded these medals are authorized to wear a star clasp that is pinned to the ribbon, 5 stars will conclude in the substitution of a bronze palm.
