The Medal for Rio da Prata and Tonelero (Medalha de Campanha Naval do Rio de Prata e Batalha da Passagem de Tonelero) was instituted by Imperial Decree in Brazil in 1852, to reward navy Officer and men who participated in the Battle of Tonelero Passing, where seven Brazilian warships forced their way defeating 16 Argentine canons, and infantry, at Tonelero, River Plate.

The Medal was awarded authorized with four grades based on the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal was awarded on a neck ribbon and granted to Senior Officer. The Silver Medal was suspended by a chest ribbon and conferred upon Officer. Finally, the Zinc Medal was wore on a chest ribbon and awarded to enlisted men.
