History

The Order of Abdon Calderon was founded in Ecuador on October 22, 1904. It is awarded to Ecuadorian and foreign military personnel in recognition of outstanding military service to the nation. It is also conferred upon civilians who have served in the armed forces in wartime.

The Order's grades are I Class Medal, II Class Medal, and III Class Medal. It is the third-highest award granted by Ecuador.

The Order was named after Captain Abdon Calderon, who was a revolutionary hero who died from injuries sustained on May 24, 1822 during the Battle of Pichincha.

The obverse suspension bar is inscribed "REPUBLICA DEL ECUADOR".
