History

The Rio de las Piedras Medal (Medalla del Rio de las Piedras) was authorised by the Junta of the United Providences of the Rio de la Plata, in recognition of the revolutionary hero General Manuel Belgrano and his troops who defeated the Spanish troops near Tucumán on September 3, 1812.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that stands for "La Patria Reconocida a sus Naturales Beneméritos Hijos, Libertad,” which can be translated to "The Recognised Fatherland to Its Natural Worthy Sons, Freedom."
