History

The Santa Barbara Medal (Medalla por Santa Bárbara) was established in 1838, in honor of those who fought against Bolivian forces at Santa Barbara, Humahuaca in 1837.

It is not clear if the composition denotes the rank of the recipient.

This Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The Province of Buenos Aires to Merit and Courage," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to “To the Memory of that Glorious Journey of Santa Barbara in Humahuaca at September 13, 1837.”
