History

The Medal for the Revolutionary Army of 1864 (Medalla para el Ejército Revolucionario de 1864) was authorized by the Bolivian government of Manuel Mariano Melgarejo Valencia (1818–1871), in recognition of the troops who supported his revolution in 1864 that resulted in the deposition of the President José María Achá Valiente, and the beginning of his dictatorial rule.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "The Loyalty Army of December," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Gratitude of the People 1865."
