The Medal for Ayacucho (Medalla por Ayacucho) was authorized by Simon Bolivar just after the end of the Battle of Ayacucho in 1825. It was awarded to revolutionary forces under the command of General Antonio José Sucre, who defeated Spanish forces at the Battle of Ayacucho on December 9, 1824.

The Battle of Ayacucho was a decisive military engagement during the Bolivian and Peruvian War of Independence, and it is considered as determinant issue to reach the independence of Latin America.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The Gold Medal with diamonds was conferred upon Generals Antonio José Sucre and Simón Bolivar, The Gold Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Silver Medal to enlisted men.

There are only two gold Medals with diamonds.
