History

The Star of Callao (Medalla por Callao) was instituted by the President of Bolivia, General Antonio José Sucre, in recognition of the revolutionary forces who participated at the siege and capitulation of the Spanish troops that remained in the fortress "Real Felipe" in Callao, Bolivia on January 11, 1826. This garrison was the last Spanish troops in Latin America.

The Star features an obverse inscription that stands to "Bolivia a los Vencedores del Callao," and can be translate to "Bolivia to the Winners of Callao."
