History

The Medal for Salomé Peréz (Medalla para Salomé Peréz) was instituted by the government of Bolivia on July 27, 1881 in recognition of the heroic actions of Salomé Peréz in the Battle of Pisagua on November 2, 1879.

The Battle of Pisagua was the first Chilean attempt to landing in Bolivia at the Pacific War. Salomé Peréz belonged to the Bolivian Batallion Victoria (Victory) that tried to prevent the Chilean invasion without success. Peréz was captured for Chileans forces in the battle, but he escaped a few days later.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "To Loyalty and Constancy, Sergeant Salomé Peréz."
