The Medal for the Battle of Tarapacá (Medalla por la Batalla de Tarapacá) was instituted by Bolivian government on September 8, 1880. It was founded in recognition of the efforts of the Bolivian troops who defeated an invading Chilean army at Tarapacá on November 27, 1879.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The gold Medal was awarded to Chiefs and Officer, while the silver Medal was for enlisted men.
