History


The Great Bolivian Order for Education (Gran Orden Boliviana de Educación) was established by the government of Bolivia on October 9, 1951. It is awarded in recognition of Bolivian and foreign institutions, citizens, educators, teachers, researchers and intellectuals, who consistently have contributed to the cultural and educational development of Bolivia. This Order succeeded the Order of Merit for Teachers instituted on September 17, 1937.

The Order is composed of three different branches. Each branch was regulated differently. In MedalBook, the Order is classified into types according with its branches. Type I corresponds to the Great Bolivian Order for Education, Type II includes the National Order of Physical Education, and Type III consists of the National Order of the Khantuta Flower.

In Type I, the Great Bolivian Order for Education consists of five grades: Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer and, Knight.

The Commander is conferred upon educators who have previously received the Officer grade and completed five years more of efficient service demonstrating high level of discipline and responsibility labor in public or private schools, as well as, educators who have completed twenty years of services.

The Order features an obverse inscription that translates to "Honor to the Fatherland," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Great Bolivian Order for Education the Fatherland to Merit Commander."
