The Order of General José Dolores, Battle of San Jacinto was established in Nicaragua by decree on September 15, 1956. It is awarded to Nicaraguan and foreigners citizens in recognition of outstanding services to the nation in humanitarian, political, and diplomatic fields.

The grades are Collar, Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.

The Order was named in honor of General José Dolores Estrada (1792-1869) who defeated to William Walker, an invading American filibuster, at the Hacienda San Jacinto on September 15, 1856.
