The Order of Police Merit (Orden al Mérito de la Policia Nacional de Perú) was founded on June 28, 1990, and it was regulated on August 19, 1991. This Order is the highest decoration granted to the members of the Peruvian Police in the country.

The Order is awarded to members of the Police and citizens, both foreigners and nationals, as well as military personnel, in recognition of heroism and extraordinary merit service in benefit of the country and the Police institution.

The Order has five grade, these are Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight. The Order varies the ribbon bar bar based on the kind of services rendered by the recipient. These might be meritorious service, distinguished action, exceptional services, and outstanding intelligence.

The Order was modified when the Civil Guard Order of Merit was merged to it.
