History

The Military Order of the National Defense (Orden Militar de la Defensa Nacional) was created in Venezuela on January 6, 1988 to reward nationals and foreigners in recognition of meritorious and outstanding virtues displayed in defense of Venezuela's sovereignty and independence, and for their contributions to the development of country's armed forces..

The Order was created with three classes: Commander, Officer, and Knight.

The Officer consists of a breast star.
