History

The Order of Manuel Zarate was founded in 2009 in recognition of Panamanian citizens for important contributions to the search, discovery, knowledge and conservation of Panamanian folklore.

The Order has a unique grades, and it is ministered by the National Cultural Institute. It is awarded annually.

Manuel Zarate (1899-1968) promoted popular folklore in Panama through musical and dancing expressions.
