History

The Order of Maria Ossa de Amador was instituted in 1996 to reward Panamanians who have made important contributions in the fields of social, philanthropic, educational, cultural, artistic, humanitarian, scientific or community services and who have exhibited exceptional civic and moral virtues.

The Grand Master is the First Lady of the Nation, and it consists of a unique grade, Grand Medal of Merit.

Maria Ossa de Amador was the wife of Manuel Amador Guerrero, who is considered as a major promoter of social services among the country, particularly for the most vulnerable citizens.
