History

The Ontario Provincial Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was instituted in 1949 by the Ontario Government to recognize members of the Provincial Police who have rendered 20 years of service.

The obverse features Ontario's Coat of Arms and the inscription [ONTARIO]. The reverse features the province's floral emblem, the Trillium.

Additional periods of 5 year service are denoted by a Trillium Device as follows:
25 Years of Service - 1 Silver Trillium device
30 Years of Service - 2 Silver Trillium devices
35 Years of Service - 1 Gilt Trillium Device
40 Years of Service - 2 Gilt Trillium Devices

Recipients also receive the Police Exemplary Service Medal from the Governor-General for the same 20 years of service.

The Medal was granted status in the Official Precedence of Canadian Orders, Decorations, and Medals on April 2, 1998.
