History


The Cross for Revolutionary Merit (Cruz al Mérito Revolucionario) was authorized in Mexico in 1939 to reward civilians and military personnel who taking part of the Mexican revolution during the beginning of the 20th century. The Cross instituted twenty years after the consolidation of the Mexican revolution.

The Cross was authorized according the period of the war. The Crosses of the First Period (1910-11) were granted to those who fought against the conservative government of Porfirio Diaz from November 19, 1910 to May 15, 1911. The Crossed of the Second Period was awarded to those who fought against the government of General Huerta from February 20, 1913 to August 15, 1914.

In the First Period, the Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "Revolutionary Merit First Period 1909-1910," and some version feature a reverse inscription that translates to "Decree No. 659 on October 45, 1939."
