History

The Decoration for Michoacan (Decoración por Michoacán) was authorized by the state of Michoacan to reward the military personnel who defended the state of Michoacán from an invading French army from 1862 to 1867.

The composition of the Decoration denotes the rank of the recipient; I Class Decoration was awarded to Generals and Chiefs; II Class Decoration was conferred upon Officers; and III Class Decoration was awarded to the troops.

The Decoration features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Michoacan to Patriotism and Constancy."

This Decoration is known as well as the Medal of Michoacan State for the French Intervention (Medalla del Estado de Michoacan por la Intervención Francesa).
