History

The Medal for French Intervention (Medalla por la Intervención Francesa) was instituted by the state of Guerrero to reward the military personnel who defended the State of Guerrero during the Second French Intervention from 1862 to 1867.

The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient: I Class Medal in gold was awarded to Generals and high ranks, II Class Medal in silver was conferred upon Officers, and III Class Medal in bronze was for the troops.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "He Fought against the Intervention and the Called Empire," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Guerrero State to its Brave Sons."

This Medal is also known as the Medal of Guerrero State for the French Intervention (Medalla del Estado de Guerrero por la Intervención Francesa).
