History

The Star for Matamoros (Estrella por la Defensa de Matamoros) was established by the Mexican government on April 27, 1836. It was awarded to Generals and Officers who defeated Texan separatists in the defense of Matamoros in battles at San Patricio, Refugio, Coleto, among others.

The Medal was abolished on July 5, 1839.

The Star features a reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Fought for the Integrity of the National Territory."
