History

The War Medal for Yaqui and Mayo (La Medalla de Guerra por Yaqui and Mayo) was instituted by the state of Sonora in recognition of the military personnel who defended the state from Yaqui Indians rose up at the Valle del Mayo.

The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "Award to Constancy and Courage, State of Sonora," and a reverse inscription that translates to "Yaqui and Mayo War in May 1886."
