History

The Star of Merit was instituted in 1998 and is conferred upon citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis, in recognition of distinguished service to the Nation. It is the 2nd highest National honour.

Recipients will carry the title "Companion of the Star of Merit" and are entitled to use the post-nominal letters "CSM".

Despite seceding in 1983, Saint Kitts and Nevis remains a part of the Commonwealth; therefore Her Majesty the Queen acts as Grand Master of the Order. The National Honours System is overseen by the Governor General, who is responsible for conferring the Medal.
