History

The Navy Observer Badge was originally issued to navigators and other support personnel who served on board naval aircraft. In 1969, the Wings were approved for wear by flight meteorologists, special evaluators, and other personnel who qualify as naval flight Officers. The Wings may also be referred to as the Flight Meteorologist Badge.

The Wings are similar in design to the Navy Aircrew Badge (see USA481 Type III).
