History


The Army of Puerto Rico Occupation Medal was first authorized on February 4, 1919, but was not officially instituted until October 19, 1919. The Bronze Medal was awarded to United States Army personnel in commemoration of military occupation service in Peurto Rico between August 14 and December 10, 1898, following the end of the Spanish-American War. Approximately 3,000 Medals were issued.
