The Second Byrd Antarctic Expedition Medal (1933-1935) was established by Act of Congress on June 2, 1936, in commemoration of the second expedition led by Admiral Richard Byrd to the Antarctic. The Silver Medal was awarded to members of the expedition in recognition of 6 months of winter service at the "Little America" base camp. Commanders of the ships of the expedition were also eligible for the award. The Medal was presented to approximately 57 personnel, including Admiral Byrd.
