History
The Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service was established by the Secretary of the Army in May 1956. The Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service was later renamed the Distinguished Public Service Medal in 2014. The Gold Medal is awarded to Federal government employees, policy officials, Army contractors, technical personnel, and other non-Army civilians in recognition of distinguished service which advances the goals of the Department of the Army.
