History

The Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Award was authorized by the Department of Army on April 13, 1987. The Bronze Medal is awarded to Department of the Army employees in recognition of superior service, achievement, or heroism that is of a lesser degree than that which is required to merit a Department of Army Meritorious Civilian Service Award, but which is still considered to be of benefit to the Department of the Army. Qualifying service includes accomplishments in duties and productivity, initiative and skill in development operations, and courage or competence during workplace emergencies.

When the Medal is awarded for bravery, the recipient is also entitled to receive a monetary award of $500.
