History

The Haitian Campaign Medal (1919-1920), also commonly referred to as the "Second Haitian Campaign Medal", was established by Navy Department General Order on December 6, 1921. The Bronze Medal was awarded to Navy and Marine Corps personnel in recognition of involvement in onshore or afloat operations in Haiti to counter peasant rebellion against American-based policies (such as racial segregation, press censorship, and forced labour) which supported United States economic interests between April 1, 1919, and June 15, 1920.

Recipients of the Second Haitian Campaign Medal (1919-1920) who previously received the First Haitian Campaign Medal (1915) wore a top suspension bar inscribed with the dates "1919-1920" on the ribbon of the First Haitian Campaign Medal to denote the additional award. When the ribbon was worn alone, a bronze star may be worn on the ribbon to denote the award of the second Haitian Campaign Medal. A silver citation star may also be worn on the ribbon to denote gallantry and bravery in action.

The Medal is the same design as the First Haitian Campaign Medal (1915), except for the obverse dates.

Only Medals issued to Marine Corps personnel were stamped on the rim with the serial number, while Medals issued to Navy personnel were unnumbered.
