The Department of State Secretary's Career Achievement Award was initially established by the United States Department of State as the "Wilbur J. Carr Award" but was later renamed. The Gold Medal was awarded to employees of the Foreign or Civil Service upon retirement in recognition of 25 years or more of dedicated and distinguished government or distinguished service. Since 2007, the Medal is no longer issued with the award.
There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by design.
