The FBI Star was established by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1989 to recognize FBI employees and other law enforcement personnel working with the FBI for exceptional acts. The Star is awarded to American and foreign personnel in recognition of serious injuries received while serving in the line of duty involving a confrontation with criminal adversaries, weapons, or gunshot wounds.
