History

The NACA Distinguished Service Medal was established by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), which aimed to advance all aspects of aeronautical research, on November 30, 1954, following the institution of the Government Employees Incentive Awards Act. The Gold Medal was awarded to NACA personnel in recognition of distinguished service and significant contributions to the United States Space Research Program. Only 7 Medals were awarded until NACA was abolished in 1958.
