The NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal was established by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 1991. The Medal is awarded to NASA civilian employees and military astronauts in recognition of significant accomplishments or contributions which substantially and significantly improve operations, efficiency, service, financial savings, science, or technology of NASA missions. Civilians may qualify for the Medal upon the fourth or fifth supervision of successful NASA missions and to astronaut crewmembers upon the completion of the second or third space flight.
