History

The NASA Exceptional Bravery Medal was established on September 15, 1961. The Bronze Medal is awarded to government and non-government NASA personnel in recognition of voluntary exemplary and courageous service during an emergency in a NASA program activity or for an exemplary and courageous performance of an official NASA task which is made without regard to personal safety. Acts of heroism made in the protection of human life or government property may also be eligible for the award, however, Medals made in recognition of heroism is rare.
