History

The Hostile Action Service Medal was established by the Central Intelligence Agency. The Medal is awarded to Central Intelligence Agency employees in recognition of service involving direct exposure to a specific life-threatening incident in either a foreign or United States area of operations against an enemy of the United States. To qualify for the award, the recipient must have only been close to death or injury, but not have actually sustained any injuries.
