History

The Airman's Medal was established on July 6, 1960, to replace the Soldier's Medal as an award for Air Force personnel. The Gold Medal is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the United States and friendly foreign nations who, while serving in a capacity with the United States Air Force, distinguish themselves by heroic acts which involved the voluntary risk of life outside of combat.

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by composition.

It is uncertain if the reverse was officially engraved with the recipient's details.
