History

This medal was conferred upon members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who fought during the Liberation War of 1971. It is considered the fourth highest gallantry award in Bangladesh.

There have been 426 recipients of this medal to date.

This medal may also be known as the Gallantry Medal. The Bengali title of this medal may be roughly translated to Symbol of Bravery or Idol of Courage.
