People's Democratic Republic of Laos


On December 2, 1974 the Lao People's Democratic Republic was built. The Lao Revolutionary People's Party became the governing party of the country and the first prime minister, Kaysone Phomvihane, remained in office until 1992.

The head of state of Laos is the president, whom the Lao People's Revolutionary People's Party provides and who is also usually the party leader. The President appoints the Prime Minister and his deputies, ministers, provincial governors and mayors of the prefectures, and he must confirm all personnel decisions by Parliament.
