Physical Description


A gilt eight-pointed cross with a wreath of green enamel palm fronds between the arms, the obverse center bears a white enamel circle with an anchor, crossed upwards facing rifles and wings, encompassed by a blue enamel border inscribed with VI-QUOC BOI-TINH, the reverse is plain and inscribed with VIETNAM, on a lavender ribbon with red trim.

History


The Medal of Sacrifice was established on May 12, 1964. It is conferred upon civilians who were the next-of-kin of military or government personnel who died in the line of duty.
