This Order was founded as a military decoration to recognize Czechoslovakian Military personnel, and foreigners, for personal bravery and leadership rendered during World War II, especially for service that led to the liberation of the Czechoslovak Republic.

The II Class Silver Star was awarded to Chiefs of Staff and Commanders of combat units.

The Order was discontinued on December 31, 1992.
