This medal was instituted by the Czechoslovak Legion, and it was conferred in recognition of meritorious and brave service within World War II.

The medal grades may features a large or small surmounting ribbon bar.

The large ribbon bar measures 51mm, while the small ribbon bar measures 34mm.

The I Class Medal was never awarded, but it was designed to have two stars on the ribbon.
