History

The Order was officially known as the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion from 1922-1990.

It was originally founded as an award to recognize meritorious actions that benefited Czechoslovakia by foreign citizens, and was later expanded to also include Czechoslovakian citizens.

The Order awards were awarded within two divisions, the Military Division and the Civil Division.

The Civil Division awards feature a pair of crossed palms within the wreath suspension.

The Military Division awards feature a pair of crossed swords within the wreath suspension.

The awards conferred after World War II feature a de-crowned lion on the obverse medallion.

The Order was designed by Spink & Son, London.

The I Class with Collar was added as an Order grade in 1924, and it was only conferred upon Heads of State.

The Collar itself may be awarded separately from the I Class badge.
