History

This Order is awarded by the President of the Republic to foreigners and national citizens who have championed, and made extraordinary contributions to, the development of human rights and democracy.

The Order was originally instituted following the Velvet Revolution in 1990, and the Order grades were re-established and re-designed in the July 9, 1994 Act on the State Decorations of the CR (Czech Republic).

It is named after the first President of Czechoslovakia Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk.

Each Order award should be numbered.

The reverse inscription translates to "We Shall Remain Faithful."

The Type II awards feature a right facing portrait of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, and dark blue enamel.
