History

This Order was established by Prime Minister Konstantin Päts in 1936 in commemoration of the declaration of Estonian independence on February 24, 1918. The Order was suppressed in 1940 when Soviet occupants seized power of Estonia. It was later renewed in 1991 when Estonian independence was restored.

This Order is conferred exclusively upon Estonian citizens for services rendered to the state. It may also be awarded posthumously.

The Collar Sash Badge is identical to the I Class Cross. The sash is 105mm wide for men and 64mm wide for women.
