History

The Commemorative Medal for the War of 1940-1941 was created on March 2, 1946. Two different medals were created - one for the Royal Hellenic Army Forces and one for the Royal Hellenic Navy.

The Army star was awarded to personnel of the Royal Hellenic Armed Forces who served in the following theatres during the Second World War: North Africa, Italy and the Aegean Islands.

The star has two versions. The first version is surmounted by a royal crown and the second version is surmounted by the emblem of Greece. Both versions have reverse inscriptions which translate to "1941-95 N. Africa S. Aegean Sea Italy."
